Cherry Cookie Ingredients
- 1 ½ cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 egg, room temperature
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon almond extract
- ½ cup maraschino cherries, drained and chopped
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
I like to use dark chocolate chips when I make these cookies but you can also use semi-sweet morsels, white chocolate chips, or try a mix of the 3!

How to Make this recipe
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
1 – Chop 1/2 cup of maraschino cherries and set aside for later.

2 – In a small bowl, mix together your dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, and salt.
3 – In a large bowl or stand mixer beat together the butter, sugar, and brown sugar.
4 – Next, add the egg, vanilla, and almond extract and beat until combined. Scrape down the sides so everything gets incorporated.
5 – Add the dry ingredients mixture in parts blending until everything is mixed. (Don’t over beat your mixture!)
6 – Fold in the cherries and chocolate chips (you don’t want to use use a mixer or you’ll shred the cherries!)
I like to use a wooden spoon or a large spatula for folding things in.
7 – Refrigerate the dough for 1 hour! If you skip this step your cookies will spread more making them thinner and crisper. (Cover with plastic wrap to keep everything moist)
8 – Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Using a cookie scoop or teaspoon drop the dough in rounded mounds at least 1″ apart. (Keep the dough refrigerated between batches)
9 – Bake for 12-15 minutes until the edges are brown. Allow to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet while they set. Then, remove to a cooling rack until completely cool.

Serve with ice cream or a cool glass of milk. Store leftovers in an air tight container.
