This is a fun recipe to make with the kids. They can easily make their own little pepperoni pizza pockets for you to cook up. Mine love helping in the kitchen so I’m always happy to find easy recipes they can help with.

I don’t use pizza sauce in this recipe so what you get is similar to a calzone. You can always dip it in some marinara sauce if you like.

Ingredients

  • 1 tube of Crescent Roll Sheet Dough
  • small pepperoni or cut regular size ones in half or quarters
  • 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Optional: Italian seasonings

For this recipe you will want crescent roll sheet dough, not the kind that is already cut into triangles for rolling into crescent rolls.

For a different flavor you can try some Air Fryer Ham & Cheese pockets too.

In a pinch you can use the regular crescent roll dough but you’ll end up with odd creases across your final product and stuff may leak out depending on how closed those creases are.

You can gently pinch along the creases to keep it sealed. You don’t want all the yummy goodness leaking out.

How to make Pepperoni Pizza Pockets (in an air fryer)

1 – Cut a piece of parchment paper the size of your air fryer basket and place inside for later.

2 – Lightly flour a baking sheet or cutting board to prevent sticking and unroll one sheet of crescent roll dough.

Cut the sheet into 4 even strips (make the cuts on the long side of the dough).

I like to use a pizza cutter to make one smooth cut but you can use a knife as well.

3 – I like to layer the contents. Put some cheese down on one side of a strip. Place some pepperoni, then more cheese, more pepperoni, etc. Use about 1/4 cup of cheese for each.

Add pepperoni to taste, the more you add the spicier it will taste.

Optional: Add a sprinkle of italian seasoning for a little extra flavor.

3 – Fold the dough over then use a fork to crimp the edges and ensure everything is sealed inside.

4 – Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees. (Keep the basket out while it’s preheating so you can load it up)

If you leave the basket in while it preheats keep the sheet of parchment paper out until you are ready to add the pizza pockets.

Transfer the pockets to the air fryer basket leaving a bit of space between them.

5 – Cook for 7-9 minutes until golden. (Flip halfway through so that both sides get nicely browned.)

Allow to cool a bit and enjoy with your favorite vegetable for a complete meal.

7 – Repeat with a second roll of dough so you have more for later!

How to store leftovers

You can store leftovers in fridge for about 3 days or in the freezer for 3 months. These little pockets are super easy to make ahead for a grab and go lunch.

I store mine in a ziploc bag but you can store them in anything that is airtight.

To reheat leftovers they will need to be thawed out. You can reheat them in the microwave in about 30 seconds or in the air fryer for a crispier finish.

Do not try to re-warm them when frozen, they will end up being tough and inedible.
